Maryedith Burrell, the Emmy and Golden Globe nominated screenwriter and performer best known for her stints on Seinfeld, Parenthood, Fridays, and SNL, returns to the stage in the world premiere of her own #OUCH! (An Accidental Comedy), a hilarious one-woman show about the trials and tribulations of modern health care.

Produced and directed by Magnetic Theatre Artistic Director Steven Samuels, #OUCH! features sound and visual design by Tommy Calloway, of The Feral Chihuahuas and Tommy Gun Productions, and lighting design by Abby Auman.

The strictly limited engagement of only eight performances will be presented at The BeBe Theatre (20 Commerce Street), Thursdays-Saturdays at 7:30 PM and Sundays at 3:00 PM, October 2-5 and 9-12.

May 2015: #OUCH! (An accidental Comedy) returns to the stage at the NEW Magnetic 375 for only three performances before heading up to the New York International Fringe Festival and The Groundlings Theatre in Los Angeles.

#OUCH! sold out at the BeBe in October. Jeff Messer, of 880therevolution and the Mountain Xpress, calls the show “A winner…brutally honest…riotously funny…deeply insightful…a major win for The Magnetic Theatre,” and says, “I can’t recommend it enough!”

After two successful runs in its home base of Asheville, The Magnetic Theatre will bring #OUCH! to the 19th annual New York International Fringe Festival August 21-29. Acceptance into FringeNYC is extremely competitive, and The Magnetic Theatre is proud that #OUCH! will represent the company’s third appearance in this prestigious festival—a rare accomplishment. (The Magnetic’s first turn in FringeNYC, John Crutchfield’s The Songs of Robert, directed by #OUCH!’s Steven Samuels, took home a solo performance award in 2009.)

Produced and directed by Magnetic Theatre Artistic Director Steven Samuels, formerly of New York’s Ridiculous Theatrical Company and Washington, DC’s Arena Stage, #OUCH! features incredible sound, visual, and animation design by Tommy Calloway of Asheville’s Feral Chihuahuas and Tommy Gun Productions.

Maryedith Burrell, a comedienne with a pedigree that includes work with Steve Martin, Larry David, Robin Williams, Tina Fey, Jon Stewart, and innumerable others, began her career improvising with The Groundlings and Second City. She has since gone on to star in five TV series and to guest star on countless others, including The Tonight Show. Along with a successful acting career, Ms. Burrell is also a screenwriter and author. As a screenwriter, she has worked with everybody from Ron Howard and Francis Coppola to Tim Burton, Disney, and Pixar. Her essays have been published by St. Martin’s Press, and she penned a humorous web column, Ms.Biz, for American Express. She moved to Asheville several years ago for the “beer and the BBQ” and stayed to get a Masters from UNCA and to teach screenwriting at NYS3. She credits the Asheville scene with “getting the funny flowing” and describes her show as “short, smart, and gluten free.”
